BRS Seeks Supreme Court Intervention to Disqualify Telangana MLAs Who Defected to Congress

BRS Seeks Supreme Court Intervention to Disqualify

The BRS party went to the Supreme Court on Thursday with two legal cases about 10 of their former members of the Telangana state assembly. These members switched to the Congress party which is currently in charge of the government. The BRS wants these members kicked out of the assembly saying they broke the rules when they left and that they’re going against what the voters wanted. Basically they say these members left the party they were elected under and that’s not okay.

One case is against three specific members and another one is against seven others. BRS is asking the Supreme Court to tell the speaker of the Telangana assembly and their staff to move quickly to decide if these members should be disqualified. They want the Supreme Court to step in to make sure things happen fast because they think these members leaving hurts their party and messes with the democratic process.

The BRS is saying the assembly isn’t taking these defections seriously enough and they hope the Supreme Court will tell them how quickly they need to make a decision. The BRS is concerned that if these cases take too long these members could keep working as representatives while being part of a different party than they were elected for. BRS believes this breaks the trust people had in them when they voted.
