Authorities have granted bail to Sahil Kataria, who was detained by them after he attacked an IndiGo co-pilot. After more than 12 hours of delay, Kataria was allegedly seen attacking the pilot of the Delhi-Goa flight in a widely circulated video.

At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, as the pilot was announcing a delay in the flight’s takeoff, he launched an attack.

WHO IS SAHIL KATARIA?

According to reports, 35-year-old Kataria and his spouse were on their way to Goa for their honeymoon.

According to an Indian Express story, Kataria, a resident of South Delhi’s East of Kailash, owns a stationery and toy store in the nearby Amar Colony neighbourhood.

Following the Sunday night incident, Kataria was taken into custody under section 22 of the Aircraft Rules, section 323 of the IPC (penalty for voluntarily causing hurt), section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), and section 290 (punishment for producing public annoyance).

After receiving a notice in accordance with Section 41 of the CrPC, he was freed on bail.

Senior police officers were quoted in the IE as saying, “He had recently got married and was going on a vacation with his wife on Sunday… she was also deboarded from the aeroplane by CISF and aircraft officers at Delhi Airport after the incident.”

According to the report, Kataria informed police that he became angry with the cabin crew for their careless actions and the delay, which caused him to lose his composure and attack the pilot.

Following the release of the attack footage, another video emerged on the internet in which Kataria is shown expressing regret with her palms folded, seemingly to the pilot. In the video, he is also heard saying “Sorry sir” to the person filming it as he is being carried away by the police on the tarmac.

“After the event, he and his spouse apologised to the workers and to the police. The matter will be brought before the court; a FIR has already been filed,” the officer allegedly stated.
