Israel’s Justice Ministry said they’re releasing 735 Palestinian prisoners this Saturday. This is the first part of a ceasefire deal with Hamas. The deal also includes releasing over a thousand residents from Gaza that Israel has been holding. All this is happening because of talks between the two sides.
Basically, Israel will let go of Palestinian prisoners in stages. In return, Hamas will release 33 Israeli hostages. This prisoner release is a big part of the agreement, with hundreds getting freed over 42 days. The main idea is to stop the fighting for a bit.
This whole thing is about swapping prisoners and hostages, with both sides agreeing to it. It’s not a simple one-day thing. It’s going to take several days with releases on different days. They’re doing it to stop the conflict for now. If this first part goes well, they might do more later.
