Hamas said on Sunday the ceasefire in Gaza wouldn’t start on time. It was supposed to begin at 8:30 a.m. local time but they said there were “technical and logistical reasons” that made it impossible to get the first list of hostages ready. They did say they still plan to follow the ceasefire agreement though. Israeli Army Radio also said the ceasefire won’t happen until they receive the hostage list.
Hamas said the delay is because they’re having trouble with the logistics of giving the hostage list. The ceasefire agreement means hostages will be released in exchange for a break in the fighting. The exact problems with logistics haven’t been explained fully. Basically, the ceasefire and hostage release can’t begin until Hamas gets the list to Israel.
Because of this the situation is on hold. The Israeli military is waiting for the list before they start the ceasefire. Even though there’s a delay Hamas said they still plan to do what they agreed to so it seems the issues are temporary. Right now, the main focus is getting the list so the ceasefire and hostage release can move forward.
