Jamshedpur: Due to the extreme cold wave the state is experiencing, Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri has urged the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) to relocate as many homeless people as possible to shelter homes.
On Friday night, a JNAC team under the command of special officer Ajit Kumar moved 12 rickshaw pullers to shelter homes and an elderly couple to the government-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) for medical attention.
Food is served to those who are moved into shelter homes from the closest Mukhyamantri Dal Bhat Yojna (MDBY) restaurant. In order to move the homeless to shelter homes, social organisations, non-governmental organisations, and private citizens have also been asked to notify the local authorities when they notice them. The majority of homeless individuals can be located near Tatanagar railway station, Sidhgora market, MGMMCH walkway, Sakchi roundabout, Bistupur fish market area, Kadma-Old court marine drive lane, long-distance bus terminus in Bhuyadih, Sidhgora market, and Tinplate chowk, among other locations.
The minimum temperature on Friday was 15.2 degrees Celsius, according to the state weather service. Over the following three days, the temperature is expected to decrease by 3–4 degrees.
