Giridih police shut down an illegal liquor distillery hidden in the Garhi Sankh forest of Gawan on Wednesday. Acting on a tip, officers from the Gawan police station raided the site, finding an active operation producing illegal alcohol. This action is part of a larger effort to combat illegal liquor production in the district.
During the raid, police destroyed a large quantity of raw materials. Specifically, they eliminated 200 kg of “jawa mahua,” the base ingredient used to make the illegal liquor. They also seized the equipment used for distilling the alcohol, effectively dismantling the entire operation.
However, the individuals working at the distillery escaped into the nearby forest when the police arrived. As a result, no arrests were made at the scene. According to Abhishek Singh, the station in-charge, the police acted swiftly after receiving reliable information.
Now, authorities are working to identify the owner of the illegal distillery. After they identify the owner, they will take legal action against them. To prevent similar activities in the future, police are increasing surveillance and gathering more information in the area.
The shutdown of this illegal distillery shows the ongoing commitment to eliminating illegal alcohol production in the Giridih district. These illegal operations often thrive in isolated areas, making them difficult to find. The police aim to maintain law and order by closing down these illegal businesses.
