A young child died Friday after falling into an open drainage pit near the Cochin International Airport. The three-year-old, Rithan Jaju, was visiting Kerala with his family when the tragic accident happened. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The accident occurred around 12:30 pm near the airport’s domestic terminal. Rithan reportedly wandered into a garden area located behind a cafeteria. Even though a hedge surrounded the area, it wasn’t enough to keep the young boy safe.
Sadly, an open drainage ditch within the garden area was not properly secured. When Rithan’s parents noticed he was missing, they began searching for him. They eventually found him in the drainage pit.
Emergency services responded quickly and transported Rithan to a nearby hospital. Doctors and nurses tried their best to save him, but their efforts were unsuccessful. This unfortunate event highlights the importance of safety measures in public spaces.
The incident has sparked concerns about the safety and security of open areas at the airport. An investigation is now in progress to understand exactly what happened and if negligence played a role. The findings of this investigation could lead to changes in safety protocols.
