Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren filed a petition on Thursday, challenging his detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to a purported land fraud. The Supreme Court decided to list the plea quickly.

On Wednesday, Soren submitted his resignation from his position following his arrest by the ED due to the agency’s dissatisfaction with his responses to inquiries.

Following a mention on Soren’s behalf by renowned lawyer Kapil Sibal, a Bench chaired by Chief Justice of India (CJI), DY Chandrachud, decided to list the matter for hearing on Friday, February 2.

Sibal demanded an immediate hearing and questioned how the ED agents apprehended the state’s current chief minister.

This has an impact on the nation’s politics. He said, “How can a man be arrested in this manner?”

“We are going to save it for tomorrow,” CJI Chandrachud said.

The Supreme Court was informed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that Soren had filed a comparable case with the Jharkhand High Court challenging his apprehension and the investigation conducted by the ED.

In response, Sibal said he would withdraw the plea that was before the High Court.

On Wednesday, after the ED had been interviewing the Chief Minister at his home since the afternoon and told him that it was about to arrest him, Soren submitted his resignation to the Governor.

After becoming “missing,” Hemant Soren reappeared in Ranchi late on Tuesday, arriving at his Kanke Road home at about 1:50 p.m.

Since Monday morning, the ED had been searching Delhi for him.

They looked for him in Jharkhand Bhawan and his home in Delhi, among other places, but they were unable to locate him.
