The girl, who has been identified as 10-year-old Neha Kumari, was walking to her school, St Joseph’s School, Golmuri, when she was hit by the car from behind.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was being driven at a high speed and the driver was not paying attention to the road. The impact of the collision threw the girl to the ground and she sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the car, who has not been identified, fled the scene of the accident after hitting the girl. However, he was later caught by the police and arrested.
The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is undergoing treatment. Her condition is said to be stable.
The police have registered a case against the driver of the car and are investigating the matter.
