Champai Soren, the recently appointed chief minister of Jharkhand, will take the floor test at 11 a.m. today to demonstrate his majority in the assembly. Following Hemant Soren’s resignation and subsequent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate last week, Champai Soren took over office as the newly appointed chief minister of Jharkhand. On Sunday night, the ruling JMM-led alliance returned its leaders to Ranchi after secluding its MLAs in a Hyderabad resort to stop poaching.
As per Manoj Pandey of JMM, the floor test is merely a “formality.” Given the size and cohesion of the INDIA alliance, the opposition’s morale is already low. The number may also surpass 48. “Our alliance and party are united,” he declared. The Champai Soren government currently has the backing of fewer than 47 MLAs, according to JMM General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya.

Several JMM MLAs who opposed Champai Soren reportedly chose not to take part in the floor test.
