Under the direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand Cabinet adopted the report on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), according to news agency ANI. The meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s mansion.

Following the approval of the UCC draft report by the cabinet, the government is expected to introduce the UCC Bill on February 6 at the Uttarakhand Assembly session. The Uttarakhand Assembly has already scheduled a special four-day session for February 5-8.

Uttarakhand will be the first Indian state to adopt the UCC following independence once it is put into effect. In Goa, it has been in operation since the Portuguese era.
