Donald Trump has reignited discussions about U.S. control over Greenland, calling it an “absolute necessity” for national security on Truth Social. Greenland, though part of North America, is controlled by Denmark, which has previously rejected Trump’s proposals to purchase the territory.
During his presidency from 2017 to 2021, Trump expressed interest in Greenland for its resources and strategic location, drawing sharp criticism from Danish leaders, including Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who stated that “Greenland is not for sale.”
The U.S. maintains a military presence in Greenland with the Pituffik Space Base, highlighting the territory’s significance in terms of defense and geopolitical strategy.
