On the occasion of Sheikh Bhikhari’s martyrdom day, the People’s Forum in Jamshedpur officially renamed Chepapul Chowk to Sheikh Bhikhari Chowk. The event, held earlier today, aimed to honor the revolutionary freedom fighter and ensure his legacy remains alive in the city.
Members of the forum, local leaders, and residents gathered at the chowk to mark the moment with speeches, cultural performances, and the unveiling of a new name plaque. The People’s Forum explained that the renaming was a step toward recognizing Sheikh Bhikhari’s sacrifices during India’s first war of independence in 1857.
They expressed their desire for the chowk to become a reminder of his courage and dedication to the country’s freedom struggle. “This is more than a name change; it’s about ensuring people remember and celebrate the heroes who shaped our nation’s history,” said a spokesperson from the forum. The decision has sparked mixed reactions among locals.
While many welcomed the move, calling it a fitting tribute, some questioned the replacement of the chowk’s original name, which also held historical significance. Despite these debates, the renaming ceremony was marked by a spirit of unity and pride, with hopes that Sheikh Bhikhari Chowk will inspire future generations in Jamshedpur.
