US Lawmaker Seeks to End Pakistan’s Special Ally Status

Pakistan USA haqqani network

Republican Congressman Andy Biggs put forward a bill again trying to take away Pakistan’s status as a major non-NATO ally the US House. This bill wants the President to make sure Pakistan is doing military stuff to stop the Haqqani Network from moving around freely in Pakistan. It also says Pakistan needs to show they are working to stop the Haqqani Network inside their country and helping Afghanistan with controlling militant movement on the border.

Basically this bill is pushing Pakistan to show it’s really trying to fight terrorism, especially when it comes to the Haqqani Network. The US president has to confirm Pakistan is stopping the Haqqani Network from using their land and that Pakistan and Afghanistan are working together to keep militants from crossing the border.

This isn’t a new thing this bill has been brought up in past Congresses since 2019 but it never went anywhere. It keeps coming up because some people in the US have serious doubts about Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and its connections with groups like the Haqqani Network you know.
