Global Temperatures Shatter Record, Exceeding 1.5°C Threshold in 2024

Global Temperatures Shatter Record Exceeding 15C T

A new report from the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service says 2024 was the first year that global average temperatures went over 1.5°C above what they were before the industrial era. This is a big deal in climate change showing we’ve passed an important point based on data gathered by Copernicus. The report says last year was the hottest one ever recorded worldwide, going past previous high temperatures.

The report also talks about some serious weather events from 2024. There was really bad flooding in Pakistan and Afghanistan in April that sadly killed hundreds of people. These events show how dangerous climate change can be and are examples of what its immediate impact is. Also, the Amazon had a long drought that made the rivers drop to record low levels hurting the nature there. This dry time and low water show how the climate is changing for the worse.

Finally, in Athens, Greece the Acropolis a big tourist spot had to close in the afternoons because of the dangerous heat. This shows how the rising heat is affecting different areas of our lives from our health to business and society. These things from 2024 show that climate change is causing different kinds of problems in many places.
