On January 10th a young Dalit man named Shrawan Meghwal was attacked in the Gudamalani area of Rajasthan. Some locals thought he was involved in a bike theft so they tied him upside down to a tree. They then beat him while he was hanging there and it all happened out in the open.
Someone recorded the attack and the video went online. You can see Meghwal crying and pleading for them to stop while they are beating him. This video has made a lot of people angry and they are calling for quick action to be taken against the attackers.
This event is bringing up concerns about how people treat minorities in this area. While we don’t know all the facts about the bike theft people are very upset about the violence used against Meghwal. The authorities are looking into the situation and talking to those involved to figure out what happened.
