A group called the United Christian Forum or UCF is worried about more attacks on Christians in India. They say it’s because some states run by the BJP have put in place laws that make converting to another religion harder. The UCF believes these laws give Hindu groups and the government reasons to target Christians and other minority religions. They also feel like the BJP’s focus on Hindu nationalism makes it okay to not be tolerant of people who aren’t Hindu especially Muslims and Christians.
The UCF thinks the BJP’s ideas and a lack of care from the government towards minorities are making the problem worse. They claim violence against minorities is being tolerated maybe even supported. The anti-conversion laws are being used to unfairly target Christians and activists and the government are using these laws to harass intimidate and even hurt them.
Basically the UCF sees a direct connection between what the BJP believes and how religious minorities are being treated. They suggest the government is allowing or even causing the violence which makes Christians feel scared and unsafe. They believe the attacks are happening because of the BJP’s politics and Hindu nationalist beliefs that promote an environment that is not welcoming to different religions.
