Karnataka Caste Census Report to be Tabled Amidst Expected Debate

Karnataka Caste Census Report to be Tabled Amidst

Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the state’s caste census report will be shown at the next cabinet meeting. This report cost 160 crore rupees and the government got it last year. The chief minister knows some people will agree with the census findings and others will not especially when it comes to how it might change the current reservation policies. The report is being brought forward after it was submitted by the head of the Commission for Backward Classes, K Jayaprakash Hegde.

This study was done to understand the different caste groups in Karnataka and their socio-economic status. The state government wanted to gather data to help them make decisions about things like affirmative action, resource access, and government representation. They collected information about different caste groups across the state which is why it was so expensive to do.

Putting this report on the table in the cabinet is a big deal and could change things a lot in Karnataka. After the cabinet looks at the report they will decide how to use the information and what policies might happen. It’s also not sure when or if the report will be made public. The cabinet meeting will decide how they’ll talk about the report and what happens next knowing that the census might not make everyone happy.
