Akhilesh Yadav, the head of the Samajwadi Party, spoke at a press conference in Lucknow on Sunday. It was also the day we celebrate Swami Vivekananda’s birthday, called National Youth Day. Yadav mentioned that Vivekananda thought people needed basic things like food first, even more than religion. He said it’s not right to talk about religion when so many people are poor and hungry.
Yadav seemed to be saying that the country should be more focused on helping people who are struggling instead of just focusing on religion. He used a quote by Swami Vivekananda to show what his party believes in. The meeting in Lucknow was a way for the party to talk about its ideas and show that they are different from others who focus more on religious topics.
Someone asked Yadav about the BJP, and he said he thinks they will lose support. This connects back to what he said about Vivekananda and poverty. Yadav thinks the BJP’s plans aren’t really helping regular people who need basic things. Basically, he’s trying to show his party cares more about what people need most.
