Congress Leader Challenges Election Rule Changes in Supreme Court, Seeks Transparency in Maharashtra.

Congress Leader Challenges Election Rule Changes i

Jairam Ramesh a senior leader from Congress has asked the Supreme Court to look at some changes to election rules made in 1961. These changes make it harder for the public to see things like CCTV footage from elections unless the Election Commission of India gives permission. The case was filed on December 24th and the court will hear it on January 15th.

The big problem is that the public now has much less access to election information. Before we could see more like the CCTV recordings from voting places. Now the election commission controls more of what gets released. Ramesh is saying this lack of openness hurts the election process because if people can see more they are more likely to trust how things are done.

The Supreme Court will now decide if the changes are good for fair elections. They will think about if stopping people from seeing election materials is a legit thing or not. This case could be important because it could change how we see and keep track of elections in India going forward.
