India’s Retail Inflation Hits Four-Month Low in December, Food Prices Ease

Indias Retail Inflation Hits FourMonth Low in Dece

India’s retail inflation dropped to 5.22% in December that’s the lowest it’s been in four months. Government numbers show this is down from 5.48% in November and 5.69% back in December 2023. The main reason things are costing a little less is that food prices went down. This information comes from the National Statistics Office using something called the Consumer Price Index to track prices.

Looking closer the price of food went down quite a bit. Food inflation is now at 8.39% in December which was 9.04% in November and a higher 9.53% the previous December. The government says these are the lowest numbers for both total inflation and food inflation in a while. This could mean people might find it easier to buy everyday stuff.

Basically the drop in India’s inflation is because food prices have gotten cheaper. The government data shows prices have been going down between November and December 2024 compared to 2023. The drop from 5.48% to 5.22% means things are cheaper now likely because of the government doing something or just market changes.
