Senior advocate S. Muralidhar went to the Bombay High Court to argue for Muzzammil Shaikh and Zameer Shaikh. They were convicted in the 2006 Mumbai train bombings and got life sentences in 2015. Muralidhar thinks the investigation was unfair and that his clients shouldn’t have been found guilty. He’s a former judge and he’s saying the evidence wasn’t good enough to keep them in prison.
The Mumbai train bombings happened back on July 11th in 2006 and lots of people were connected to the case over the years. Muralidhar isn’t arguing about the bombings themselves he’s focused on how the investigation was done that led to his clients getting convicted. He’s trying to get their sentences looked at again because he doesn’t believe there’s solid proof that they had anything to do with it. He thinks the investigation might have missed important stuff.
Muralidhar’s arguments are also about the bigger picture too. He’s pointing out problems with how evidence is used in court cases. He thinks that bias during investigations could lead to people being wrongly convicted and that may be what happened to his clients. He’s trying to get justice for them and show that they’ve already spent 18 years in jail because of a bad legal process.
