Meta India said sorry on Wednesday because of some comments Mark Zuckerberg made on a podcast. He’d said lots of governments in power lost in the 2024 elections including India’s. People in India got worried since the party in power actually won there.
Meta India’s Vice President, Shivnath Thukral, said on X that Zuckerberg’s comment about leaders losing power didn’t apply to India even though it did happen in other places. He tagged Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw directly because it was a big deal. Meta said the error was “inadvertent” and the main goal was to fix the wrong idea that Zuckerberg’s statement made about the Indian election results.
The apology was also to make sure the Indian government and the public know Meta thinks India is “incredibly important”. It showed that it’s super important to be accurate when talking about political stuff and that a company like Meta has to watch what it says. Meta fixed the issue quickly by making an announcement on X.
