Rahul Gandhi said that Mohan Bhagwat of the RSS made a bad statement calling India’s true independence linked to the Ram temple ceremony. Gandhi thinks this is wrong and called it treason. He feels this insults all Indians especially those who worked hard to gain independence in the first place. He said it disrespects the independence India got in 1947 and the people who sacrificed for it.
Gandhi went on to say that Bhagwat’s words are disrespectful to India’s Constitution and all the people who fought to be free from British rule. He reminded everyone that India’s independence in 1947 came after a long and difficult fight. Gandhi says that Bhagwat’s statement not only puts down this achievement but also makes people question India’s history and the freedom movement.
Gandhi made these remarks when the Congress party opened a new office in New Delhi. This was a public event so his comments were meant to be heard by many. It seems like he is using this moment to respond to Bhagwat and also to try and get more support by talking about important values like national unity and the fight for independence.
