Uttar Pradesh CM Says Calling Disputed Sites “Mosques” Encourages Visits

Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on January 11 2025 that we shouldn’t call some disputed buildings mosques He thinks if we stop using that word people won’t go there anymore. He said Islam doesn’t allow building mosques if it hurts other people’s religious feelings so calling them mosques isn’t right.

He explained that by referring to these places as “mosques” people are encouraged to visit them. He feels that if we change how we talk about these places less people will want to visit. He was talking about some buildings in Uttar Pradesh where there have been disagreements but he didn’t say exactly which ones.

The Chief Minister’s words show what he thinks about these buildings and how important he believes language is to how we see things. It looks like he wants to make these places seem less important as Muslim worship sites. This article doesn’t say if anyone else has responded to what he said.
