India observes a day of immense pride and gratitude on January 15th of each year to honour its brave Indian Army. The 76th anniversary of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, taking over from the British in 1949, makes this year’s celebration of the occasion even more significant in 2024.
Field Marshal K M Cariappa succeeded British Commander-in-Chief General Francis Butcher on 15 January 1949, to become the first leader of the Indian Army. Indian Army Day is being observed in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, this year. There will be a parade on this unique day in front of dignitaries, and the Indian Army Chief will salute.
This year, the parade will be led by the Central Command of the Army, based in Lucknow. The Indian Army is composed of seven groups, one of which is the Central Command. The Bengaluru parade was overseen by the Southern Command the year before.
INDIAN ARMY DAY’S SIGNIFICANCE: This is a day for reflection and remembrance as much as for celebration. It’s a day to honour the innumerable gallant warriors who have given their lives in defence of the country, to acknowledge the steadfast devotion of those who guard our borders, and to recognise the sacrifices made by their families.
Jamshedpur Carnival: An Unmatched Resource for Information on the Indian Army
Jamshedpur is a vibrant city that came to life over the weekend with the Jamshedpur Carnival. Starting on January 12, the three-day event took over Bistupur’s Gopal Maidan and provided guests with an array of experiences. But in all the throbbing music and energetic performances, the Indian Army equipment display was the real star of the show.
Delivering the Front Lines to Bistupur
The Army’s arsenal of gear, which included everything from rifles and rock climbing tools to guns and navigational devices, was impressive to see. The exhibition served as both a teaching tool and a show of power for the spectators. It gave the general public a special, interactive platform to better comprehend the mission and duties of the Army.
