Massive Protest Against New Pension Scheme in Gujarat ahead of PM Modi’s Visit

Protest advocating for the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) has been initiated by hundreds of government workers, mostly teachers, and is expected to cloud Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s forthcoming visit to Gujarat according to TFPJ. The demonstration, which took place at the Gandhinagar Satyagrah camp, brings attention to the long-standing resentment of the government’s New Pension Scheme (NPS).

Why are employees protesting in Gandhinagar, Gujarat?

Government employees are urging Central and State governments to revert back the Old Pension Scheme and scrap New Pension Scheme. According to the employees, the Old Pension Scheme offers a more secure and predictable post-retirement income compared to the NPS, which is market-linked and considered riskier.

    No Commitment from the Government

Government officials have yet not given any commitment on the implementation of Old Pension Scheme. A government spokesperson Rishikesh Patel even stated that various issues, both significant and minor, tend to surface during election periods.

The government response on the issue has fueled frustration among the protestors.

  • Google’s Gemini AI response to PM Modi sparks controversy, user posts the results over X, minister criticizes Google

Google’s Gemini AI response to PM Modi sparks controversy, user posts the results over X, minister criticizes Google

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar responded to a complaint on Friday from X users alleging that Google’s Gemini AI tool is biased against Prime Minister Narendra Modi by stating that the platform is against the I T regulations in addition to other laws.

As per the tweeter, a suitable response was given to a question regarding fascism. When Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump were asked the same question, it declined to respond.

According to the minister, this also contravenes a number of criminal laws in India. On the social media platform X, Chandrasekhar stated, “These are violations of several provisions of the Criminal code as well as direct violations of Rule 3(1)(b) of Intermediary Rules (IT rules) of the IT act.” The minister also flagged the X post for follow-up action with Google and the Ministry of Electronics and IT.

The person on Twitter who reported the purported bias referred to Gemini AI as malicious and woke. “Google’s Gemini AI is not only intelligent—it is blatantly malevolent. The Indian government needs to pay attention,” the writer wrote. Gemini is an AI-powered chatbot that can respond to requests, produce content, and present data when necessary. DeepMind at Google is the developer of it. The announcement was made on December 6, 2023. It faces off against the GPT-4 from OpenAI.

This occurs just hours after tech magnate Elon Musk called out Google’s AI image creation engine as racist. “I’m glad that Google overplayed their hand with their AI image generation, as it made their insane racist, anti-civilizational programming clear to all,” he posted to X.

He was making reference to the backlash that Google Gemini has been receiving on the internet for depicting historical figures—who were originally white—as people of colour.

Rajeev Chandrashekhar responded with “Concerning+1” to Elon Musk’s tweet.

BJP MP Locker Chatterjee and several female leaders were arrested on Friday, February 23, on the Sandeshkhali issue as they were protesting there everyday

On Friday, several female leaders, including BJP MP Locker Chatterjee, were arrested while travelling through Sandeshkhali, citing Section 144. This sparked a new controversy surrounding the area. The strongman Sheikh Shahjahan of the Trinamool Party and his supporters have been the target of protests by women in Sandeshkhali for the past few days, accusing them of sexual abuse and land grabbing.

Kunal Ghosh, a leader of Trinamool, stated that since BJP leaders are lining up daily to visit Sandeshkhali, it is likely that Delhi has given the order to prolong the Sandeshkhali issue until Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in West Bengal in March. As part of his scheduled itinerary, PM Modi will visit West Bengal on March 1 and 2, and on March 6 he will speak at a women’s rally in North 24 Parganas. North 24 Parganas is home to Sandeshkhali.

“Locker Chatterjee travels to Sandeshkhali for a photo shoot instead of her constituency. Thus, Kunal Ghosh stated, “They will go every day, provoke the people, and stage some drama.” Representative Locket Chatterjee, state secretary Sonali Murmu, advocate Priyanka Tibrewal, advocate Madhuchandra Kar, general secretary Agnimitra Paul, Falguni Patra, and Paromita Dutta were among the women’s team members travelling to Sandeshkhali on Friday.

Fresh protests against Shahjahan began in some parts of the country on Friday, and West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar was in Sandeshkhali. A close aide to Shahjahan and two leaders of the TMC are among the eighteen persons that police have detained thus far in relation to the land grab and sexual assault. Since the ED’s initial raid on Shahjahan’s home in January, he has absconded.

Sukanta Majumder, the president of the West Bengal BJP, was taken into custody on Thursday for organising a demonstration against the Sandeshkhali events. “They had to use force to get us up,” When I was released from jail, I had to sign a bail bond. Here, on a dharna, we were detained. Unless our employees are permitted to travel to Sandeshkhali, we will not stop protesting and raising our voices.”
The FBI searched multiple locations throughout the state on Friday and filed a new case against Shahjahan Sheikh.

  • ASP Jharkhand demands Dalits and Minorities Lok Sabha tickets based on the population

ASP Jharkhand demands Dalits and Minorities Lok Sabha tickets based on the population

Chief Minister Champai Has Received A Letter From Kashif Raza, President of the Azad Samaj Party (K) in Jharkhand State. In it, he demanded that Muslims and Dalits receive tickets to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections based on population.

He stated that Chief Minister Champai Soren recently decided to conduct a caste census in Jharkhand. It would be greatly appreciated. The percentage of Muslims in Jharkhand is fifteen percent, and the percentage of Dalits is approximately thirteen percent.

In Jharkhand, there is only one Lok Sabha seat reserved for Dalits, even though Muslims and Dalits both have a right to two seats each, proportionate to their population. For the past 15 years, Jharkhand has produced no Muslim Members of Parliament. In those seats where Muslim MPs could have won, tickets have not been given to Muslim candidates.

By winning seats held by Muslims and Dalits, members of castes with relatively low population numbers in Jharkhand are becoming MPs. Development for Dalits and Muslims is impossible unless they receive political participation proportionate to their population.

For society to be represented in the modern era and for their representatives to serve as their voice in the house, you are kindly asked to make sure that the Alliance provides tickets to at least two Dalit and two Muslim candidates running for office in Jharkhand in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
