23 Murshidabad Migrant Workers Detained in Chhattisgarh Over Bengali Language Claims

At least 23 migrant workers from Murshidabad, West Bengal, were detained in Chhattisgarh on suspicion of being Bangladeshi, allegedly due to speaking Bengali. The workers, residing in Chhattisgarh for about 15 years, were picked up by police despite presenting voter IDs, Aadhaar, and other documents. Families and a local contractor claim the detentions followed repeated document verification summons. The workers were moved to a Raipur detention camp, causing distress among relatives dependent on their remittances. The Migrant Workers’ Unity Forum has urged authorities to verify identities and release them immediately.
