Congress Condemns FIR Against Rahul Gandhi Over Haldwani Purification Ritual Comments as Height of BJP Arrogance

An FIR was filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Haldwani over his criticism of a “purification” ritual performed at the rally venue of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. The complainant, from the Valmiki SC community, alleged Gandhi’s remarks hurt religious sentiments. The Congress called the move an attempt to suppress dissent and protect caste-based discrimination, with leaders like Ashok Gehlot and Pawan Khera condemning the action. Gandhi had previously demanded legal action against those involved in the ritual, labeling it “untouchability”. Union minister J.P. Nadda had earlier disassociated the BJP from the practice.
