Tragic Fire in Bengaluru Claims Lives of Two Siblings
In a tragic incident on May 11 in Bengaluru, two young siblings—five-year-old Arjun and three-year-old Asha—were burnt alive when a fire suddenly engulfed their temporary shed in Narayanapura. The family, migrant workers seeking daily wage jobs, had been living in the makeshift shelter while the children’s parents were out working. At the time of the fire, the children were under the care of their grandmother, who had briefly stepped away from the shed nearby.
Locals heard the children’s cries and rushed to help, but the fire spread too quickly for them to be rescued. Both children died at the scene from severe burns. Police from Kothanur Police Station inspected the area and have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause, which remains unclear. Possible reasons being explored include an electrical short circuit or a cooking-related accident.
The incident has sparked grief and concern among residents over the safety of informal settlements where migrant workers often live without adequate protection or basic infrastructure. The tragedy underscores the urgent need for improved living conditions and safety measures for vulnerable families in such temporary accommodations.
