Delhi Students Detained, Allegedly Assaulted Over Chhattisgarh Mural

Delhi Students Detained Allegedly Assaulted Over C

Four Delhi University students were reportedly detained by Delhi Police on February 4th for painting murals on campus walls. The murals referenced “Operation Kaagar” and civilian deaths in the Bastar area of Chhattisgarh. The students are associated with the Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch (BSCEM).

The students, identified as Gaurav, Gauraang, Kiran, and Rahul, were allegedly taken into custody from the Delhi University campus. Baadal, a member of BSCEM, stated the students were physically assaulted while detained. He said they went to the Vasant Kunj Police Station where the students were taken and learned of the alleged mistreatment.

The murals addressed “Operation Kaagar” and civilian casualties in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region. These topics are often debated and protested. As a result, detaining the students sparks questions about freedom of expression and whether their artistic rights were violated.

This event is part of a trend of increased monitoring of student activism and artistic expression on college campuses. These detentions could impact how students interact with social and political issues through art. The Delhi Police have not yet released an official statement on the allegations. Further investigation into the police actions is necessary to ensure accountability and protect student rights.
