Centre Rules Out Nationwide Cow Slaughter Ban or National Animal Status for Cow

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said the government currently has no plans to declare the cow India's national animal or ban cow slaughter nationwide. He noted some organizations and Muslim leaders support these measures to reduce communal tensions, but no formal proposal is under official cabinet consideration at this present time.
