VCK and IUML Endorse Vijay's TVK for Tamil Nadu Government Formation
The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) have announced their support for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government in Tamil Nadu. This backing increases the alliance's total to 120 seats, surpassing the required majority of 118 in the Assembly.
The VCK's decision followed a high-level committee meeting that authorized party leader Tol. Thirumavalavan to make the final call. Both VCK and IUML hold two MLAs each. The current seat distribution shows TVK with 108 seats (effective strength 107), Congress with 5, CPI and CPI(M) with 2 each, VCK with 2, and IUML with 2, totaling 121 seats including Vijay's two wins.
Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M. K. Stalin welcomed the announcement, stating that despite supporting the TVK alliance to avoid crisis, the DMK-led secular progressive alliance continues based on policy. He noted that Congress MLAs who won on the alliance ticket did not thank the DMK, and Congress severed ties with DMK the same day.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami congratulated the party set to form the next government after the 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections. In a post on X, he extended heartfelt congratulations to the party preparing to form the government in the state.
