Pune Residents Demand Ban on Loudspeakers and DJs During Public Festivals

Hundreds of Pune residents marched to the Municipal Corporation, demanding a ban on loudspeakers and DJs during public festivals. Organized by the Loudspeaker-Virodhi Punekar Manch, the protest was not against any community but targeted excessive noise pollution. Demonstrators called for joint inspections by police and pollution boards, real-time decibel monitoring, and strict enforcement of noise rules. The march followed the alleged assault on activist Vidyanand Bapat, who has been campaigning against loud sound systems. Police said a memorandum was submitted and legal action would be taken based on collected noise data. Residents, especially the elderly and children, reported sleep disruption and health issues due to loud celebrations.
