Religious Symbols on Plates Spark Outrage at Hyderabad Hotel
A controversy erupted in Hyderabad after customers at the Evergreen Hotel in Chikalguda found food served on paper plates printed with images of Hindu deities, the Kaaba, Al Aqsa Mosque, Buddha, and other religious symbols. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 13. Customers reported that when they questioned the hotel owner about the issue, they were allegedly driven out by the hotel staff.
Advocate Mohamed Siraj, a member of the Informal Labourers and Workers Foundation, addressed the media and stated that one of their members, Shakeel, discovered the images on a paper plate while ordering tea and a samosa. Siraj added that Shakeel noticed other customers discarding the plates in the dustbin and raised the issue with the hotel owner.
Some customers collected the plates from the dustbin and approached the Chikalguda police to file a complaint. Speaking to Siasat.com, Chilkalguda SHO B Anedeep confirmed that ILWF members had approached the police station and raised the issue. He stated that no formal complaint had been filed yet and that the police would call the hotel owner to verify the matter before taking any action.
