Calcutta High Court Denies Urgent Hearing for Aroop Biswas's FIR Quash Petition Filed by Satadru Datta
The Calcutta High Court denied an urgent hearing for former West Bengal Minister Aroop Biswas's petition. He sought to quash an FIR filed by Messi GOAT Tour organizer Satadru Datta. The FIR alleges criminal intimidation related to an event from six months prior.
Senior Advocate Kishore Datta argued extreme urgency, noting Biswas's brother was already arrested. He claimed the FIR was filed suddenly on May 30 without a preliminary inquiry. The court, however, refused to list the matter urgently.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharya's bench advised moving the petition through regular channels. The court suggested Biswas seek anticipatory bail if he feared arrest. It cautioned against allowing urgent mentions for such cases to avoid being flooded with similar requests.
Datta alleged the proceedings were politically motivated. The court maintained its stance, directing the petitioner to follow standard legal procedures. It emphasized that personal liberty concerns should be addressed via anticipatory bail applications.
Ultimately, the High Court declined urgent intervention. It left open the option for Biswas to pursue available legal remedies. The quashing plea must be filed and processed in the ordinary course of business.
