On Friday January 17th Abu Dhabi changed the name of Al Asayil Street to Al Nakhwah Street. This was done by the Department of Municipalities and Transport. It marks three years since a Houthi drone attack that happened in Abu Dhabi’s Mussafah area on the same day back in 2022. The Abu Dhabi Media Office says this is a way to remember what happened.
The 2022 attack hit fuel tanks in Mussafah causing a big explosion and small fire. Sadly three people died because of it and that’s why they are doing this now. Changing the street name is like a memorial for the people affected and a reminder of how important that event was for the city.
So basically the street name changed from Al Asayil to Al Nakhwah because of the anniversary of that Houthi attack. This happened in Khalifa City and was announced by the Department of Municipalities and Transport. It shows how much the attack impacted the city and the country and that they want to remember the lives lost and the damage done.
