Amnesty International says Lebanon should not send Abdul Rahman Al-Qaradawi back to Egypt or UAE. He’s a poet and son of a scholar, and got picked up on December 28 after coming from Syria. He made a video that dissed UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt which went viral. Amnesty thinks all this is cuz he was just talking freely.
Lebanese security asked him about a 2017 Egypt court thing where he got five years for “false news.” UAE also wants him. Amnesty warns if Egypt or UAE get him, he might disappear, get tortured, get a bad trial, or other bad things. They’re saying criticizing governments is not a crime and forcing him to leave goes against international rules.
Amnesty International basically saying human rights is more important than politics and money to Lebanon. They want Al-Qaradawi released immediately so he can go to Turkey or somewhere safe. His lawyers went to the UN asking them to stop the extradition from Egypt and UAE.
