A court in Brazil started looking into possible war crimes by an Israeli soldier because of his posts on social media. This happened after a bunch of videos showed up online that seemed to show what Israeli soldiers were doing in Gaza. The court started its investigation without waiting for the International Criminal Court to get involved first. They found out about the specific soldier because of his online posts which made the Brazilian authorities take action.
The whole thing started over a year ago when videos from Israeli soldiers began appearing online. Things got more serious last week when the court in Brazil decided to go after one of these soldiers. Last January 12th, the Israeli soldier in Brazil got a bunch of calls from the Israeli Foreign Ministry and consuls and he was taken into custody and things are still being looked into.
The investigation started because of what the soldier himself posted online. These posts seemed to show him being involved in war crimes in Gaza. The court in Brazil seems to want to deal with this because of these posts and what they showed. The main reasons for the case are to hold people responsible and follow international rules while the actions of the Israeli government to try and hide what happened are being ignored.
