Firefighters in Los Angeles had a really tough time Sunday battling wildfires. These fires had already destroyed a lot of homes and sadly, 24 people had died. On top of that, at least 16 people were missing and officials thought that number might go up. The main thing they were trying to do was control the fires and make sure no one else got hurt.
The weather people said things would get worse because of strong winds. They issued warnings that these bad fire conditions would last until Wednesday. The wind was expected to be about 80 kilometers per hour and even stronger in the mountains reaching 113 kilometers per hour. This meant the fires could spread fast and new ones could start making things even harder for the firefighters.
Tuesday was supposed to be the worst day because the high winds and dry conditions would be at their peak. This was a big worry for people living in houses and made it extra tough for firefighters. The authorities kept working hard to rescue people, control the fires and help communities that were hit while also getting ready for the bad weather coming.
