Chad presidential palace in N’Djamena got attacked January 8 2025 commando unit security forces fired back government says 18 of 24 attackers killed one security guy also dead incident happened hours after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno at the palace at first they thought Boko Haram but government now says attackers were drunk no terrorism connection.
The attack started around 7:45 p.m. local time everyone heard the gunfire journalists saw it tanks were on the streets heavy security presence people ran from the area they were scared govt said everything is under control the attempted coup was stopped President Deby was at the palace when it all happened govt sources confirmed.
This all happened after Chad ended their military agreement with France there’s internal political issues Chad had a general election recently with fraud allegations low voter turnout the current President came to power in 2021 after his fathers death and they’re saying he is consolidating power by reorganizing the military and aligning with countries like Russia and Hungary country is still poor despite having oil.
