Israeli Defense Minister Ousted, Cites Conscription Threat in Exit Letter

Israeli Defense Minister Ousted Cites Conscription

Yoav Gallant used to be in the news a lot as Israel’s Minister of Defence but after he was fired by the Prime Minister things changed fast. He had been in the military and politics for a long time and was in charge during the fighting in Gaza. After he lost his job you just didn’t see him around as much anymore even though he was important in the government.

When Gallant left he wrote a letter saying that he thought the Prime Minister and his replacement were making the country less safe. He said this was mostly because of issues with how people are drafted into the army. He didn’t talk about other problems only about the army draft in his letter.

What happened with Gallant shows that there might be some problems inside the Israeli government while the fighting in Gaza is still happening. His letter pointed out concerns about army draft policies but didn’t say why he was fired besides that. It’s interesting to see how a person who was so well known became less visible so quickly when he had worked in government and military for so long and was leading in the war.
