Moon Added to “At-Risk” List Over Debris and Tourism Fears

Moon Added to AtRisk List Over Debris and Tourism

The World Monuments Fund just put the Moon on its list of places that are in danger. This is because there’s a lot more space junk floating around now. And more people might start visiting the Moon which could cause problems. A report in The New York Times said there are over 90 important places on the Moon that could get hurt if we’re not careful.

The big worries are all the old satellites and rocket parts that are just floating around space. These things could hit and damage important sites on the Moon. Also as more people travel to the Moon for fun there’s a chance they could mess things up like the place where Neil Armstrong first stepped on the moon which is called Tranquility Base.

The World Monuments Fund wants to make sure everyone knows that we need to take care of these places on the Moon. They want governments and space companies to think about how their actions can affect the historical stuff on the moon. They’re pushing for a way to explore space without damaging our cultural history up there.
