Approval of Caste Census in Jharkhand
The path was prepared for the census. On Saturday, Chief Minister Champai Soren gave his approval. The Personnel Department will be in charge of the caste census project.
The caste census was previously supported by the Hemant Soren government, though it was unclear which department would be in charge of carrying it out. The Land and Revenue Reforms Department is assigned the task of conducting the census under the State Executive Rules. However, the executive rules did not assign any department the task of conducting a caste-based census. Following the Chief Minister’s directive, the government has broken this deadlock. The caste census will now be carried out by the personnel department with government approval.
What is the Significance of Caste Census?
- Discrimination based on caste is still pervasive throughout much of India. One useful tool for identifying marginalized groups and elevating them in the policy-making process is a caste census.
- Targeted policies to alleviate social inequality and improve marginalized communities can be put into place by having a thorough understanding of the distribution of various caste groups.
- It is challenging to guarantee the equitable distribution of resources in the absence of precise data on the population of OBCs and other groups.
- In this sense, a caste census can be beneficial as it offers insights into the needs and socioeconomic circumstances of various caste groups.
- It can help legislators create policies that address the unique needs of every group, fostering inclusive development.
Congress also demands Caste Census
