Forest officials find dead dolphin, DFO says strict action will be taken after investigation

Sahibganj:A dead dolphin was found on the banks of the Ganges River near Kashi Tola Ghat in the Uttari Begumganj Panchayat of Udwa. On receiving the information, Forester Rana Ranjit, Forest Guard Sunil Kumar, Indrajeet Kumar and others reached the spot and took possession of the dolphin’s body.

DFO Manish Tiwari said on the suspicious death of the dolphin that the dolphin’s body has been taken into possession by sending forest workers. Its postmortem will be done.

Investigation underway

Forest officials are currently investigating the matter. He said that strict action will be taken under Schedule-I of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 against anyone found guilty. It may be noted that hunting of Gangetic dolphin is prohibited under the said Act.
