The Sundernagar villagers’ long-running conflict with the nearby flour mill over pollution concerns took a new turn when the villagers blocked the mill’s entrance with traditional weapons. In order to prevent the mill’s waste water from desecrating their fields, barns, and places of worship, they are demanding immediate action.

When tainted water from the mill flooded Jaher Than, a community holy site, on Friday, the situation reached a breaking point. Following years of suffering from the pollution, the villagers got angry enough by this violation to act quickly.

The head of the village, Jag Jeevan Singh, stated that their place of worship has been contaminated by the mill’s wastewater and threatened violent protests if the problem is not resolved. The mill owner, Ajay Aggarwal, rushed to the scene after hearing about the protest and promised to make things right in 20 days. He highlighted the mill’s dedication to community collaboration and its 70-year history.

The villagers of Sundernagar have long expressed concern over environmental damage, but they have not seen concrete solutions to their problems, which have been brought to light by this incident.
