Jamshedpur: Hundreds of depositors of Sahara India Cooperative Society staged a protest outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum district on Thursday, demanding refund of their money.
The depositors, who had invested lakhs of rupees in Sahara, said that their deposits had matured long ago, but the company had not yet returned their money.
“We had invested our hard-earned money in Sahara hoping to get it back on time,” said one of the depositors. “But the company is not refunding our money even after the deposit period has expired.”
The company had launched a portal to refund money up to Rs 10,000. However, many depositors said that they had applied for the refund through the portal, but had not received their money.
The depositors demanded that the company should refund their money in cash through the office. They warned that they would launch a more aggressive agitation if their demands were not met soon.
The Deputy Commissioner’s office assured the depositors that their demands would be taken up with the company.
