A varied range of leaders, academics, and practitioners from around the world convened at the XLRI campus for the conference. They were all motivated to promote ethical behaviour in the business sector and beyond.
The opening remarks of the conference emphasised the crucial role that ethical leadership plays in creating a more equitable and sustainable world, setting a contemplative and aspirational tone.
The foundational values of the JRD Tata Foundation for Business Ethics and XLRI were emphasised by the messages from Fr. George, SJ (Director of XLRI), Fr. Jerry Coutinha, SJ (Jesuit Provincial), and Fr. Donald D’Silva, SJ (Dean Admin-Finance at XLRI). These messages emphasised the significance of community, compassion, and commitment in leadership.
Prominent attendees such as Amit Raj Sinha, MD and CEO of Sigachi Industries Limited, Hyderabad, and Soni Sinha, Chief Ethics Officer of Tata Steel, offered priceless insights into the real-world application of ethics in business.
Soni Sinha promotes morality for upcoming leaders
Soni’s talk about Tata Steel’s ethics policy served as an example of how businesses may consistently live up to moral standards.
She advised the next generation of leaders to live moral lives and to take responsibility for their actions both at home and at work.
She cited JRD Tata, who said, “No success or achievement in material terms is worthwhile unless it is achieved by fair and honest means and serves the needs or interests of the country and its people.”
ESG integration and moral decision-making are priorities for Amit Raj Sinha.
A strategy for ingraining ethical behaviour into corporate culture was provided by Sinha’s emphasis on decision-making ethics and the incorporation of ESG factors.
He focused on the moral conundrums that every person and business encounters and offered advice on how to handle them in an ethical manner.
He challenged the leaders to understand the purpose of their own lives as well as the industry’s, drawing on the three pillars of the golden circle: What, How, and Why.
“For every business entrepreneur, figuring out their purpose and living up to it is essential,” he continued. Our sense of culture and community, rather than our intelligence or flexibility, is the main reason humans have continued to flourish and expand.
He challenged the attendees and professionals to have a positive impact on our community by working hard, being devoted, and acting morally.
A diverse range of paper presentations were presented throughout the conference, encompassing subjects such as corporate governance, ethics in higher education, green technology innovation, and ethical AI applications.
