A businessman in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, recently reported to the police that he was defrauded of ₹47 lakh in a land deal gone wrong. Varun Agarwal, who lives in Jora Phatak, said that he paid the money to individuals who promised him 138 decimals of land. According to the police report, Agarwal initially paid ₹45 lakh and then an additional ₹1.5 lakh. Unfortunately, he never received the land he paid for.
The individuals involved assured Agarwal that the property would be transferred to him after they received the full payment. However, after he had made all the payments, the land was not transferred, prompting him to file a complaint with the Dhanasar police station. He further explained that the payments were made over time, starting with a larger initial sum and followed by smaller payments. The police have begun investigating the case, working to identify the people involved in the scam and hopefully recover the stolen money.
Unfortunately, real estate scams are a growing problem, and they often involve false promises and fake paperwork. These types of scams not only hurt victims financially, but they also erode trust in the whole real estate system. As Agarwal stated, “They took 45 lakh at first and then 1.5 lakh,” showing that the deception happened in stages. Because of these rising cases, officials are advising people to be extra careful when making property deals. It is important for people to double-check all documents and verify the true owner of the land to protect themselves from becoming victims of fraud. This case will be closely watched by the community and by the police as the investigation proceeds.
