In Potka, Jharkhand, a new initiative is underway to help people find work locally and reduce the need to leave home for employment. The local government is focusing on providing job opportunities to keep families together and strengthen the community.
Providing Local Job Opportunities
Veena Munda, the head of Gwaltaka Panchayat (village council), recently distributed job cards to villagers. These job cards guarantee work under the Jharkhand government’s 100-day employment program. This program, also known as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), aims to give people at least 100 days of paid work each year.
The distribution of these job cards brought joy to many workers in the area. By having these cards, they are assured of employment opportunities right in their own villages. This reduces the pressure to migrate to other places in search of work. Learn more about similar programs and their impact on rural communities.
Bringing Awareness to the Community
Mukhiya Veena Munda, along with Panchayat Secretary Lovius Tirkey, is working hard to make sure everyone knows about the MGNREGA program. They believe it is vital to implement this scheme effectively to decrease migration from Potka. As Veena Munda stated, the main aim is to “bring the Jharkhand government’s 100-day employment guarantee scheme to the ground level and stop migration from Potka.”
Reaching Out to Villages
The MGNREGA awareness campaign has reached many small villages within the Panchayat. These include Gwaltaka, Gaudgram, Jamdih, Serengadih, and Bootgonda. The local government hopes that by providing job opportunities within these communities, they can improve the lives of residents. This initiative is a significant step towards empowering rural communities and ensuring that laborers have access to sustainable livelihoods without leaving their homes.
